Due to the continuous adverse weather conditions, troops under Security Forces Headquarters (Central) the 12 Infantry Division of the conducted several rapid disaster relief operations within the Hambantota District.
As vehicular movement along the Tangalle–Weeraketiya road near the Godawanagoda Footbridge had been disrupted due to flooding, a team of 01 x 12 troops from 3 Sri Lanka National Guard was deployed to assist motorists and ensure their safe passage.
Civilian movement along the route leading to the Sellakataragama Lakshmi Devalaya was restricted as the area became inundated. To safely transport affected civilians across the flood-affected stretch, Naval motorboats were employed, while 02 x 12 Army troops and 00 x 05 Naval personnel provided essential assistance.
On the Witharandeniya–Pattipola and Witharandeniya–Kasagala roads, several trees had fallen onto power lines. A contingent of 00 x 25 troops from 3 Sri Lanka National Guard was deployed to remove the debris and restore the affected road sections to normal condition. Army troops continue to extend uninterrupted emergency relief assistance to the affected civilian population
