Due to the severe impact caused by the adverse weather conditions that prevailed over the past few days, the Commander Security Forces (Central), Major General KAWNH Bandaranayake USP, undertook a three-day field visit from 02 to 04 December 2025. to observe disaster-affected civilians and inspect impacted locations within the 11 Infantry Division Area of Responsibility, covering the Kandy, Matale, and Nuwara Eliya Districts.
During the visit, the Commander inspected the disaster-affected areas of Mahiyanganaya, Hasalaka, and Udadumbara, and subsequently visited the 11 Infantry Division Operations Room, where he reviewed and discussed the required future courses of action for disaster management and restoration. Thereafter, he proceeded to inspect the affected areas of Peradeniya, Gelioya,Gadol Bokkuwa, and Gampola. The primary objective of these inspections was to assess ongoing response operations and implement future plans directed at restoring normalcy in the affected areas.
The Commander also conducted an inspection of a special detachment of the Sri Lanka Army Special Forces deployed at Gampola Buddhist College. At the Operations Room, the prevailing disaster situation was briefed by the Commander, SF Brigade. In addition, the Commander issued directives to expedite the restoration of transportation routes, ensure the rapid provision of water to areas experiencing shortages, and accelerate ongoing rescue and relief operations in critically affected locations. He also distributed essential items and relief supplies to the displaced civilians accommodated in safe centres.
On 04 December 2025, upon the arrival of the Commander of the Army for an inspection of the 11 Infantry Division Area, the prevailing disaster situation was briefed at the 11 Infantry Division Operations Room by the Commander, 11 Infantry Division. Thereafter, the Commander of the Army and the Commander Security Forces (Central) paid ceremonial visits to call on and pay respects to the Mahanayake Theros of the Asgiriya and Malwatta Chapters.
Subsequently, the Commander of the Army and the Commander Security Forces (Central) conducted further field inspections in disaster-affected areas within the 11 Infantry Division Area of Responsibility, engaged in discussions with displaced civilians in safety centers , Army personnel engaged in relief duties, and foreign relief teams, and issued additional operational directives. During the visit, inspections were also carried out on the houses of Army personnel that had been damaged due to the disaster.
