In alignment with the 76th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Army, a civil military cooperation (CIMIC) operation was executed with strategic emphasis on engaging the national populace, philanthropic stakeholders from both public and private sectors, media institutions, and non- governmental organizations (NGOs), including international NGOs
This initiative was launched with the overarching objective of fostering a more responsible and ethically grounded society, promoting behavioral transformation physical, psychological, and emotional within a culturally enriched framework. It further aimed to instill a sustainable culture of cleanliness and environmental stewardship through systemic improvements
Under the command guidance of the Commander Security Forces (Central), Major General KAWNH Bandaranayake USP, and the leadership of the General Officer Commanding of the 12 Infantry Division, Major General WMNKD Bandara RWP RSP USP ndu psc, and conceptualized by the Commander of the 122 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier BDTD Jayaratne psc, a key infrastructure rehabilitation project was undertaken
The bus halt located adjacent to the main access route to the 122 Infantry Brigade Headquarters, facing Hambantota, originally constructed by the Sri Lanka Army Corps of Engineers, had deteriorated due to prolonged neglect and was deemed unfit for public use. The area in front of the electrical transformer and the Brigade name board had become a daily congregation point for school children and civilians commuting towards Wellawaya, posing safety concerns due to overcrowding
To mitigate this hazard, the location was restructured to accommodate passengers traveling in the opposite direction, thereby enhancing operational safety and public convenience. The refurbishment incurred an expenditure exceeding LKR 150,000.
Executed under the "Clean Sri Lanka" campaign, the project was completed within a 7 day operational window through the manpower contribution of all personnel from the 122 Infantry Brigade Headquarters and logistical support from local benefactors, who donated materials valued at approximately LKR 180,000
The rehabilitated bus halt was formally handed over for public use on 10 October 2025 at 0700 hours, marking a successful CIMIC effort in honor of the Army’s 76th Anniversary
