A land slip triggered by the torrential rains exist in the upcountry, completely obstructed the vehicular movements at Diyagala along the Nuwaraeliya - Awissawella main road during the morning hours on 07 December 2023.
Troops of 19th Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard, based in Laxapana, rapidly responded to assist the members of Sri Lanka Police and Road Development Authority in order to clear the passage. Army troops cleaned the road that was obstructed with rocks and earth mounds. Residents in the area provided much needed support to troops and other authorities to restore the regular transport operations
