18th GENERAL OFFICER COMMANDING OF 12 INFANTRY DIVISION ASSUMES DUTIES

Major General Sumal Hemarathna RWP RSP psc of Vijayahahu Infantry Regiment assumed office as the new General Officer Commanding of 12 Infantry Division on 15 January 2025 amidst religious blessings and military formalities at the 12 Infantry Division Headquarters in Hambantota.

Upon arrival, the senior officer was accorded a Guard Turnout followed by a Guard of Honour by the troops of 20 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment. Afterwards, the newly-appointed GOC left his signature in an official document, signifying the acceptance of his new office amidst chanting of ‘Seth Pirith’ by the Chief Incumbent of Vedasitikanda Temple Venerable Hille Gnanananda and Maha Sanga. To mark the occasion the Commander posed for a group photograph and planted a sandalwood sapling in the 12 Infantry Division Headquarters premises.

Thereafter, newly appointed GOC addressed the troops, highlighting his vision for the division’s future, personnel values, comradeship and maintaining a high level of discipline among officers and other ranks. Officers, Other Ranks and civil workers of 12 Infantry Division took part in the events.
