NEW COLONEL OF THE REGIMENT OF MIR TAKES OVER DUTIES

Major General W.M.S.C.K Wanasinghe RSP USP, the General Officer Commanding of 21 Infantry Division assumed duties as the 17th Colonel of the Regiment of Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) on 26 September 2024 at the Regimental Centre of MIR, Dambuluhalmillewa

The newly-appointed Colonel of the Regiment was welcomed by Brigadier A.K Peiris RSP, the Centre Commandant of MIR along with Regimental Council Members and saluted him in a Guard Turnout presented by troops of MIR. Following this, the new Colonel of the Regiment paid tribute to the fallen War Heroes of the MIR by laying a floral wreath at the War Heroes' monument. A formal Guard of Honour was then presented to the Senior Officer

In keeping with tradition, the newly appointed Colonel of the Regiment planted a sapling in the camp premises. He then posed for a group photograph with Officers and Other Ranks

To officially mark his assumption of duties, the Colonel of the Regiment signed an official document amidst religious observances. As a pioneer member of the Mechanized Infantry Regiment since its inception in 2007, his appointment as the 17th Colonel of the Regiment holds special significance for the MIR
