55 INFANTRY DIVISION’S NEW GENERAL OFFICER COMMANDING ASSUMED OFFICE
Major General BGS Fernando USP Hdmc psc assumed duties as the 28th General Officer Commanding of the 55 Infantry Division in a brief ceremony held at the Division Headquarters in Kilinochchi on 22 November 2024. The event commenced with welcoming the GOC by the Brigade Commanders, Staff Officers, followed by a Guard Turnout and Gaurd of honour.
Having attended the multi religious observances, Major General Sampath Fernando officially signed a document and planted a sapling in the Division premises as a symbolic gesture.
The newly-appointed GOC in line with military formalities addressed all Officers and Other Ranks. The event concluded with an All-Ranks tea.
Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, Staff Officers and Other Ranks of 55 Infantry Division attended the formalities.
