The Army War College proudly conducted its third Hash Run of the year on Sunday 23 November 2025 and over 200 officers representing Senior Command Course 15, Junior Command Course 34, Junior Staff Course 30, including Student Officers from Friendly Foreign Nations (Bangladesh, India, Maldives and Pakistan) and Sister Services together, Faculty and Permanent Staff with their families participated in the event. Representing Major General PS Subath Sanjeewa RSP nps psc, Commandant Army War College, the Deputy Commandant commenced the event with the Ceremonial lowering of the Checked Flag.
Rooted in the global hashing tradition originated in Malaya in 1938, the Army War College Hash Run blended physical endurance, mental resilience and teamwork, offering a refreshing break from academic routines. With the energetic support of the Colombo Hash House Harriers, participants followed adventurous trails and checkpoints, guided by enthusiastic Hashers, Hares and Hounds. During the event that covered around 7.8 km, the enthusiastic hashers took to the scenic trails of a village-bound road, surrounded by lush paddy fields and the soothing sights of Buttala where recent rains had left behind a trail of water puddles, adding an extra layer of challenge to the hash run as the runners navigated through the countryside, taking in the tranquil beauty of the surroundings.
The event echoed the famous ‘ON-ON’ calls and light-hearted rituals that make hashing unique as reshaped with the Commandant’s innovative approach to a laid-back family event to shake off workload stress of both students and staff. Following the run, officers and families gathered at the Open-Air Theatre for fellowship, entertainment, and the traditional Hash Circle, celebrating achievements, unity and shared experiences. The event highlighted Sri Lankan hospitality and military brotherhood, particularly for international participants.
As Army War College continues to shape future leaders, this event is a testament to institution’s commitment to enhance organisational skills and display mutual respect among peers and their families.
