INDIAN ARMY WAR COLLEGE DELEGATION VISITS ARMY WAR COLLEGE, BUTTALA, SRI LANKA, UNDER DIRECTING STAFF EXCHANGE PROGRAMME

A delegation from the Army War College, Mhow, India, visited the Army War College, Buttala, Sri Lanka, under the Directing Staff Exchange Programme, strengthening the longstanding professional ties between the two regional military training institutions. The delegation was headed by Brigadier Shashi Bhushan Ghildiyal, accompanied by Colonel Pradeep Singh Bura and Colonel Abhishek Saxena.

Upon arrival, the delegation was warmly received by the faculty of the Defence Studies Branch. The visiting officers then paid a courtesy call on the Commandant of the Army War College, Major General PS Subath Sanjeewa RSP nps psc. During the discussion, both parties emphasised the importance of continued collaboration in professional military education and reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation. To mark the occasion, mementos were exchanged, symbolising the cordial relationship and mutual respect between the two institutions.

During their visit, the delegation received an extensive briefing on the roles, responsibilities, and academic contributions of the Army War College. They were also presented with a detailed overview of the key courses conducted at the Army War College namely the Senior Command Course, Junior Command Course, and Junior Staff Course. Faculty heads elaborated on the curriculum and modes of conduct, highlighting the institution’s focus on strengthening operational leadership, analytical thinking, and decision-making skills among student officers.

A significant highlight of the programme was the delegation’s participation in Exercise Eagle Strike, where they engaged with Student Officers and shared valuable operational insights and perspectives on tactical and operational planning. Their interaction enriched the exercise and contributed to an enhanced learning atmosphere.

This visit reinforced the value of sustained military-to-military engagement between the Sri Lankan and Indian Army War Colleges. Such exchanges play a crucial role in developing future leaders, promoting regional cooperation, and advancing shared professional military standards. Both institutions expressed their commitment to further expanding academic partnerships, joint activities, and exchange programmes in the years ahead.
