STUDENT OFFICERS OF AWC EDUCATED ON GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS

A comprehensive series of lectures and practical session on “Geographic Information Systems and its Application to Military” conducted on 17 and 18 June 2024 at the Army War College (AWC).

AWC organized the lecture on the subjected topic with the view to enhance knowledge of the Student Officers of Senior Command Course 11, Junior Command Course 30 and Junior Staff Course 26.

All together 116 Student officers participated in the Programme. The lectures and practical session were conducted by Capt NDM Ranathissa SLSC, a Research Officer of IT and GIS Wing of Centre for Defense Research and Development –Ministry of Defense (CDRD-MOD) with the guidance of the Director General CDRD, Major General B I Assalaratchi USP psc ptsc.

During the programme, Student Officers were educated on Basics of GIS, Remote Sensing, Digital Cartography and Geographic Coordinate systems followed by a practical session on Geoprocessing, Georeferencing and Effective use of GIS for Military Decision Making Process.
