SRI LANKA ARMY WAR COLLEGE COMMENCES THIRD TRIMESTER COURSES, STRENGTHENING FUTURE MILITARY LEADERSHIP

The Sri Lanka Army War College (SLAWC) proudly announces the commencement of the third trimester for its Senior Command Course (SCC) 15, Junior Command Course (JCC) 34, and Junior Staff Course (JSC) 30. The opening address was delivered by Major General P S Subath Sanjeewa RSP nps psc, the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army War College, emphasizing excellence in leadership, unwavering professionalism, and the importance of holistic education.

The courses bring together a diverse group of officers; 51 in the SCC, 70 in the JCC, and 30 in the JSC, representing various regiments of the Sri Lanka Army, as well as officers from the Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Air Force. Notably, the JCC 34 includes four foreign student officers, from allied nations of Bangladesh, India, Maldives, and Pakistan fostering regional military cooperation and understanding.

In his opening address, the Commandant extended a warm welcome to all participants, highlighting the overarching importance of balancing intellectual development with emotional intelligence, empathy, and character building because true education should nurture both the mind and the heart.

He also valued that the participation of foreign officers would be an opportunity to enrich the learning environment and strengthen regional military cooperation whilst encouraging the participants from Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Air Force together with various regiments of Sri Lanka Army.

Course Objectives, stressed during the Opening Address detailed as the academic focus of each course: Senior Command Course (SCC) - preparing selected Majors to become professionally competent and successful Commanding Officers, Junior Command Course (JCC) - evolving knowledge and leadership requirements of middle-grade officers, with a focus on command responsibilities, and Junior Staff Course (JSC) - establishing a strong foundation in staff duties and operational procedures for junior officers. Then the participants were reminded of the high standards of professional conduct, discipline, and ethical decision-making expected of them as future leaders of the Sri Lanka armed forces and allied militaries.

The SLAWC is confident that these courses will equip officers with the strategic insight, operational acumen, and tactical proficiency necessary to meet the evolving security challenges facing Sri Lanka and the world. The trimester promises to be a period of rigorous academic engagement, professional development, and strengthened camaraderie among officers from diverse backgrounds and nations.
