The Student Officers of Senior Command Course (SCC) No 13, Who are to become the potential commanding Officers of the Sri Lanka Army very recently concluded their study tour to Colombo starting from 25 March to 28 March 2025. This visit facilitated the Student Officers to witness the key defence and economic related institutions in the country. The Army War College delegation visited the headquarters of Sri Lanka Costal Guard (SLCG), the premier maritime law enforcement force located in Mirissa on 25th March 2025. The Student Officers were able to know the SLCG entrusted role and task of a ‘Peace Officer’. Further, witnessed a demonstration of a rescue mission.
On 26th March 2025, the delegation headed by Major General TCMGST Cooray RWP RSP USP ndc psc the Commandant, Army War College visited the Army Headquarters. After posing for a group photograph with Principal Staff Officers and Senior Officers along with Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army, the delegation was privileged to listen to a comprehensive lecture delivered by the Director Training on the topic of ‘The Role of Contemporary Battalion Commander’. The informative lecture followed by the question and answer session gave the opportunity for Student Officers to interact with Principal Staff Officers of the helm of the organisation.
Subsequently, Student Officers had the opportunity to interact with the Colonel Directorate of Operations together with other Senior Officers of the Directorate of Operation to take fresh updates on modern Operations room and its functions.in the Directorate of Operations Student officers were briefed on Integrated Contingency Plans (ICPs) and Commanding officers` s role in maintaining operational readiness for ICPs.Thereafter,delegation visited the Directorate of military Intelligence and took part in the briefing conducted by the Colonel Tech on contemporary security situation and the overall intelligence picture, and aspects to a pertinent to a Commanding officer.This was followed by an interactive session with the desk Officers to acquaint about emerging threat perspectives.
In the same day afternoon, the delegation reached the Sri Lanka Air Force Headquarters and attended the briefing session led by the Director Air Operations about the role and tasks, capabilities and limitations of Sri Lanka Air Force. The delegation was fortunate to take part in an interactive session to clarify their doubts about challenges and way forward of achieving the jointness between Sri Lanka Army and Sri Lanka Air Force.
Having commenced the third day of the visit, Student Officers arrived at the Disaster Management Centre (DMC). There; a brief but comprehensive briefing, was conducted by the Director General – DMC followed by Director Operations and his staff briefed about the role and tasks of DMC and educated the visiting delegation on the functions of the institution. At the DMC Student officers hed the opportunity to visit the opeeations room, Where they listened to a comprehensive beefing on its functions Then, the delegation ushered to the Naval Headquarters where they witnessed an informative briefing on the role and tasks of Sri Lanka Navy, operational deployment and most importantly, their untiring effort to keep our territorial waters safe as the first line of defence.
Then, the delegation visited the highest training establishment of the defence forces in Sri Lanka, the National Defence College (NDC). The delegation was impressed while seeing its functions, learning objectives, other academic and administrative aspects of this esteemed military education institute. As the final segment of the Study Tour, Student Officers visited one of the main emerging economic hubs of the country: the Port City Complex at the heart of Colombo. The managing director of the Port City delivered an informative briefing with respect to the sustainable values and future economic and financial potentials of the Port City to boost the economy of Sri Lanka towards the key maritime hubs of the Indian Ocean.
This productive Study Tour to Colombo brought an opportunity to student officers of SCC 13 in witnessing and gaining knowledge on key military and non-military outfits of the country.
