ARMY WAR COLLEGE HOSTS DEFENCE ANALYST MR NILANTHAN NIRUTHAN FOR DINERS’ CLUB SESSION ON MODERN WARFARE

The Army War College hosted a Diners’ Club session on 23 October 2025, focusing on ‘Modern Warfare’. The event featured Mr. Nilanthan Niruthan, Executive Director of the Centre for Law and Security Studies (CLASS), Colombo, as the Guest Speaker.

The session was attended by 151 Student Officers from the Senior Command Course No 15, Junior Command Course No 34, and Junior Staff Course No 30, along with officers from the Sister Services and Foreign Officers from Bangladesh, India, Maldives, and Pakistan. Brigadier PPC Perera psc, Deputy Commandant, Colonel DPASA Witharana psc, Chief Instructor, members of the faculty and the permanent staff also participated.

Mr. Niruthan, a Defence Analyst and Policy Researcher specialising in Global Security, shared insights on the importance of indigenous doctrine for Sri Lanka, rethinking its non-alignment strategy, the value and risks of generational friendships with larger allies, and the benefits of developing local capacities. He also discussed the evolution of technology in future warfare scenarios, emphasising foreign diplomacy policy objectives and military strategies.

Diners’ Club events at the Sri Lanka Army War College aim to provide professional development through intellectual stimulation and informal learning. These sessions include presentations by guest speakers on Military Professionalism, Modern Warfare, and Interactive Discussions.

The Deputy Commandant expressed gratitude to Mr. Niruthan for guiding the students and presented a memento on behalf of Major General Subath Sanjeewa RSP nps psc, Commandant of the Army War College.
