The Army War College (AWC) in Buttala marked its 3rd anniversary with a series of meaningful and celebratory events that highlighted its prominence, significance and commitment to service. The week-long celebration, held from December 13 to 17, showcased the institution’s dedication to community engagement and its rich traditions.
The festivities began on December 13th, with a special lunch organized for the residents of the 'Methsewa' Foundation School in Handapangala. The school, dedicated to caring for differently able persons, warmly welcomed the AWC team. The Commandant, who graced the occasion as the chief guest, led the efforts to ensure the children enjoyed a delightful meal and a day filled with joy and care. This act of kindness set the tone for the celebrations, emphasized the college’s commitment to inclusivity and community welfare.
On December 15th, the AWC turned to spirituality with a religious programmer held at the temple within the camp premises. The event provided an opportunity for everyone to reflect on the values of peace and unity while seeking blessings for the continued success of the institution. The spirit of service continued on December 16 with a Shramadana Campaign at the Kubukkana Saubagya Special Needs School. Troops joined hands to clean and enhance the school’s facilities, showcasing the college’s dedication to uplifting local communities. The collaborative effort was a testament to the AWC’s belief in making a tangible difference in the lives of those in need.
The 3rd anniversary day on December 17 began with a formal Guard Turnout to Brigadier T C M G S T Cooray RWP RSP USP ndc psc, the Commandant at the main gate, setting a disciplined and ceremonial tone for the day. Following this, a group photograph captured the unity and pride of the AWC family. The Commandant addressed the troops, reflecting on the institution’s achievements and inspiring everyone to strive for excellence in the years ahead.
An all-ranks lunch brought everyone together in a spirit of camaraderie, reinforcing the bonds that define the AWC community. The celebrations concluded on a high note with a vibrant musical show held at the Open Theater premises where lively performances brought joy and entertainment to all attendees thus bringing the the 3rd anniversary celebrations of the Army War College, Buttala, to an end with a reflection of its values and mission.
