As the nation honours the valiant spirit of the Sri Lanka Army, the Army War College in Buttala celebrated the 76th Army Day with a series of dignified events that blended tradition, leadership, and environmental stewardship.
The celebrations commenced with a solemn Army Flag Hoisting Ceremony, where personnel stood at attention, saluting as the flag was raised. The ceremony, steeped in military protocol, reaffirmed the college’s dedication to upholding the Army’s core values of loyalty, courage, and discipline, values that have guided Sri Lanka army for 76 years.
Following the flag ceremony, the college disseminated the Army Commander’s Message to all personnel, including Faculty, Permanent Staff, Course Participants, Other Ranks and Civil Staff. The message highlighted the Army’s proud legacy of safeguarding national sovereignty, supporting community welfare, and adapting to contemporary security challenges.
To coincide with the Army Day celebration, on the instructions of the Commandant of the Army War College, Major General P S Subath Sanjeewa RSP nps psc and the close supervision of the Deputy Commandant, Brigadier P P C Perera psc the camp premises was prepared to plant 150 Banana plants and with the participation of the All Ranks and the Civil Staff the tree plantation drive came to the success.
Meanwhile, Under the visionary leadership of Commandant Major General P S Subath Sanjeewa RSP nps psc, the Army War College successfully reopened its farm and farmhouse. The farm shop which was vacant for a certain period of time was reopened for the college community to provide fresh fruits and vegetables crops at reasonable prices. The farmhouse reopening event underscores the college's commitment to holistic development.
