Commander 122 Infantry Brigade - Brigadier Dammika Jayarathne Leads a Heartwarming Initiative for Soldiers' Families

In a remarkable display of community support, Brigadier Dammika Jayarathne, the Commander of the 122 Brigade, spearheaded a dual-purpose welfare program aimed at assisting the families of low-income soldiers. The event, which included a dry ration distribution and a scholarship program, was held on 09 September 2025, at the Daya Gamage Hall, Kiriwehera Raja Maha Viharaya, Katharagama.

2. The scholarship program was a highlight of the day, designed to uplift the educational standards of the soldiers' children. Five deserving children from four families of the 1st Battalion of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment were selected by Brig Dammika Jayarathne, as he was a former CO of 1 VIR. Each of these children will receive an educational scholarship of Rs. 10,000 per month, until they complete the GCE (O/L) examination, providing a crucial boost to their academic journey.

3. This initiative underscores the commitment of the military leadership to the welfare of their personnel and their families, ensuring that the sacrifices of soldiers are honored with tangible support. The event was made possible through the collaboration of the 122 Infantry Brigade, the 3rd Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard, and the Kiriwehera Raja Maha Viharaya.
