12TH COMMANDING OFFICER OF RHQ BN VIR ASSUMES DUTIIES

Major W S S De SILVA RWP RSP assumed duty as the 12th Commanding Officer of Regimental Headquarter Battalion ofVijayabahu Infantry Regiment on 30 August 2022.

Major Shamal Silva was enlisted to Sri Lanka Army Regular Force on 12 January 2001 and followed the basic military training as an Officer Cadet with Intake 53. After a successful training he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on 28 June 2003 and posted to the 8th Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.

Major Shamal Silva has held a variety of operational, administrative and command appointments, some of which are:

Officer Commanding – 8th Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment

Administrative Officer Commanding – 5th Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.

Senior Instructor – Army Training School, Maduruoya

General Staff Officer II - Army Training School, Maduruoya

Second in Command – 1st Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment

Senior Instructor – Combat Training School, Ampara
