SUNRAYS’ RIDGE WAS DECLARED OPEN BY THE COLONEL OF THE REGIMENT

A splendorous ceremony at the Vijayabahu Infantry Regimental Centre on 16 July 2022, marked the commissioning of the “SUNRAY’S RIDGE”, accommodation complex for all Commanding Officers of VIR by the Major General Nishantha Manage WWV RWP RSP psc, Colonel of the Regiment of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment at the invitation of Centre Commandant and all Officers of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.

On the conceptual guidance of the Colonel of the Regiment VIR, in the notion of extending standardized accommodation facilities, this construction project has initiated by renovating former rear headquarter buildings of battalions and transformed them into full-fledged accommodations for all Commanding Officers of VIR battalions. In that, all Battalion Commanders extended tremendous effort by utilizing battalion funds and workforce to make this farsighted project a success as it was much needed for Commanding Officers to accommodate their loved ones during regimental events as well as transit purposes.

Upon Colonel of the Regiments’ arrival at the venue honoured him in accordance with military formalities after he was warmly received by the Deputy Centre Commandant VIR. Then, amidst the ritualistic rhythm beats of traditional drums and hakgediya, Colonel of the Regiment unveiled the SUNRAY’S RIDGE name board structure and opening plaque, followed by a visit at the accommodation complex.

Major General Rohitha Aluvihare, Director General General Staff, Office of Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier Janith Bandara, Brigadier Coordinator of Security Forces Headquarters (Jaffna), VIR Senior Officers, Regimental Staff Officers and Other Ranks attended for this indelible event.
