In accordance with the directions of Directorate of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law and supervision and guidance of the Centre Commandant, Regimental Centre Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, a Three Day Workshop on International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights was successfully conducted for troops of Regimental Centre VIR from 06 June 2022 to 08 June 2022 at the Regimental Centre while adhering all the health precautions and guidelines stipulated to prevent COVID-19 outbreak. The topics covered during this workshop are:
Basic human rights and right to personal defense
Arresting, detention and interrogation procedures of the Sri Lanka Police
Procedures followed by Sri Lanka Army Corps of Military Police
Internal Security
Sri Lankan legal framework
Domestic violence and cruelty
Protecting child and women rights
OIC Crime of Kurunegala Police, Chief Inspector MPDP Gunathilake, General Staff Officer I (Operations/Training) Regimental Centre VIR, Lieutenant Colonel Mahinda Ekanayake, Regimental Center Legal Officer, Maj Amanda Wickramasinghe, Staff Sergeant Madhusanka and Staff Sergeant Siriwardhana of 1 SLACMP provost section Kurunegala, were the main speakers at these lectures.
Over 180 soldiers participated for the workshop. The programme was benefited and admired by participants due to its existing value for the day to day life.
