On the guidance of Colonel of the Regiment of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Major General S U M N Manage WWV RWP RSP psc, Vijayabahu Infantry Regimental Centre currently undergoes a series of construction projects by utilizing regimental reserve funds, saw simultaneous inaugurations on 19 February 2022 with the gracious presence of the Colonel of the Regiment amidst blessings of all Archers.
As the day’s itinerary, split log by the Colonel of the Regiment amidst religious observances symbolised the ceremonial commencement of the construction of Archers Cricket Turf Pavilion which fully-fledged with all conveniences including all modern amenities. It is located beside the beautiful lush greenery near Archers’ Lake. Then the Colonel of the Regiment met the National Savings Bank (NSB) officials at his office who made a generous assistance by donating Rs. 500.000.00 for the construction of Archers Cricket Turf. The Colonel of the Regiment then dedicated his time to greet the Senior Officers who promoted to the prestigious ranks of Brigadier and Colonel coincide with 74th Independence Day. It was followed by a rank investiture ceremony by the Colonel of the Regiment to the Non Commissioned Officers who excelled in sports. Afterwards, the ceremonial opening of the Coconut Production Complex was rolled out with the ribbon cutting and unveiling of the plaque by the Colonel of the Regiment. This Coconut Production Complex which initiated as a source of income consists with an Oil Expeller Machine, Coppara Cutter Machine and Coconut Husk Chips Machine with the intention of launching qualitative coconut based products under the Archers brand. The day reached it’s climax when the Colonel of the Regiment laid the cornerstone for the construction of the Archers Cricket Turf Pavilion as the auspicious minute struck.
The Centre Commandant, Brigadier Keerthi Wijerathna, Commanding Officers, battalion representatives, Regimental Staff Officers and Other Ranks attended for these series of events.
