Demarcating a qualitative enhancement of the organization and assuring the progressive upliftment of the cadre grading, twenty six (26) Lieutenant Colonels of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force conferred to the rank of Colonel on a directive of His Excellency the President with the concurrence of the Ministry of Defence and General L H S C Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, Acting Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army. Four (04) Senior Officers belong to Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, namely; Lieutenant Colonel W B Pandiatha RSP, Lieutenant Colonel W W M P K Wijekoon RSP KSP, Lieutenant Colonel L W A D S Wickramasinha, Lieutenant Colonel W P J K Dissanayake were among those 26 Senior Officers elevated to prestigious rank of Colonel.
On gesture of appreciation and commendation, Liaison Officer of Vijayabahu Infantry Regimental Centre, Lieutenant Colonel L W A D S Wickramasinha who was elevated to the rank of Colonel had the privilege of receiving his new rank insignia from Major General S P K A Pilapitiya RWP RSP USP, Commander Security Forces Headquarters (Mullaittivu) and Colonel of the Regiment of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment during an audience had on 05 July 2021 at his office at the Security Forces Headquarters (Mullaittivu).
Colonel Damitha Wickramasinha was born on 02 September 1971 and studied at St. Anthony’s College, Kandy. He was a bright student in the college who amply illustrated his talents and skills in various streams. He was enlisted to the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force as an Officer Cadet on 27 June 1991 to the Officer Cadet Intake 15 (Volunteer). After successful completion of the basic military training, he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant on 07 December 1991 and posted to the 3rd (Volunteer) Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment. He has held many command appointments in unit line such as Platoon Commander, Adjutant and Company Commander. He has held the appointment of Second in Command of 12th (Volunteer) Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment and subsequently commanded the 20th (Volunteer) Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment. He has served in various establishments in the capacities of Staff Officer I (Welfare) - Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force Headquarters, Staff Officer I - 65 Infantry Division and Senior Course Coordinator - Ranaviru Resources Centre.
After awarding Colonel rank insignia, peak and cane to Colonel Damitha Wickramasinha, Colonel of the Regiment wished him good luck with his future undertakings.
