Under the direction of the Commander of the Army, General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil and the guidance by Colonel of the Regiment of the Vijabahu Infantry Regiment, Major General Sisira Pilapitiya RWP RSP USP as well as the supervision by the Centre Commandant, Brigadier Sumal Hemarathna RWP RSP, Vijayabahu Infantry Regimental Centre conducted the first rollout of its COVID-19 vaccination programme with the Covishield vaccine from 31 May 2021 to 03 June 2021 with the assistance of medical staff and vaccines provided by the Directorate of Army Medical Services and Directorate of Army Health & Preventive Medicine at the Regimental Centre, Boyagane, Kurunegala.
Total 43 Officers, 1488 Other Ranks and 57 civil servicemen serving in the Regimental Centre belong to Regimental Staff, 6th Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Regimental Headquarter Battalion, 130 Squadron of Sri Lanka Army Service Corp and Sri Lanka Corp of Military Police Provost Section were vaccinated in this campaign. Vaccination of the second doses will be conducted from 14 July 2021 to 17 July 2021 respectively.
