On the far-sighted guidance of Colonel of the Regiment of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Major General S P K A Pilapitiya RWP RSP USP, Vijayabahu Infantry Regimental Centre with the approval of the Commander of the Army General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, currently undergoes a series of construction projects, saw simultaneous inauguration of a gigantic task on 11 February 2021 when construction of the new Swimming Pool was ceremonially commenced by utilizing regimental reserve funds with the indelible toil and blessings of all Archers.
Amidst religious observances, Brigadier K A W N H Bandaranayake, the Centre Commandant of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, laid the cornerstone for the construction of the new Swimming Pool as the auspicious minute struck.
The Swimming Pool will be a 25m long and 21m wide, 8 lane aquatic arena and fully-fledged with all conveniences including a modern pavilion with all amenities. It is located beside the beautiful lush greenery facing Archers’ Lake, Indoor Stadium and Rugby Grounds. Primarily, the swimming pool is utilized to enhance the swimming capabilities of soldiers and upheave the skills illustrating in Army showcase and inculcate interest on aqua sports. This project will be carried out by Tech Waters (PVT) Ltd. Sri Lanka Engineers Regiment and Corps of Engineer Services of the Sri Lanka Army are in support of ground preparation and meeting Sri lanka Army’s standards to commence with the project.
