NEW STAFF OFFICER I (ADMIN) ASSUMES OFFICE

Lieutenant Colonel H W M A C Fernando RSP assumed office as the 11th Staff Officer I (Admin) of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) on 15 December 2020 during a brief ceremony at the Vijayabahu Infantry Regimental Headquarters, Boyagane, Kurunegala.

Lieutenant Colonel Mervin Fernando was born on 31 August 1976 and completed his school education from St. John’s College, Nugegoda. He was enlisted to Sri Lanka Army Regular Force on 27 January 1995 and followed the basic military training as a Cadet Officer with Intake 42. After a successful training he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant on 21 December 1996 and posted to the 8th Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.

He has hold many appointments in 8 VIR such as Platoon Commander, Intelligence Officer, Adjutant, Company Commander, 2nd In Command and subsequently Commanded the 18th Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment and 22nd Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment. Before taking over duties as the Staff Officer I (Admin) he held various appointments as General Staff Officer 2 (Plans) at Directorate of Plans, Major (Admin and Quartering) of 553 Brigade, Staff Officer 2 of Faulty of Allied Health Sciences at Kothalawala Defence University, Chief Instructor of Training Wing (Staff Officer 2) at Army Physical Training School - Panagoda and Staff Officer I (Admin) of Security Forces Headquarters (West), Panagoda.
