CONSTRUCTION OF REGIMENTAL PARADE GROUND CEREMONIALLY COMMENCED IN RHQ VIR

On the far-sighted guidance of Colonel of the Regiment VIR, Brigadier Sisira Pilapitiya, laying asphalt to the Regimental Parade Ground was ceremonially commenced on 30 September 2020 utilizing regimental reserve funds with the indelible toil and blessings of all Archers.

The Parade Ground is a sacred place where foot and weapon drill is taught and practiced by all Officers and Other Ranks during their military life. Drill is a vital component of soldiering and it helps them to be disciplined, regimented, intelligent and loyal with leadership. Existed gravel layered Regimental Parade Ground consisted with 118m length and 67m width was made during the establishment of Regimental Centre in Boyagane, Kurunegala on 23 April 1993. Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment received Presidential Colours at this parade ground on 22 March 2013 by then President, present Prime Minister His Excellency Mahinda Rajapaksa. Therefore this parade ground is a unique place for the all regiment troops and renovated parade ground may provide better performance to award Ceremonial Parades, Guard of Honours for senior officials, dignitaries and foreign delegates in the future.

This renovation will convert the parade ground into a 124m long and 74m wide standard drill arena, with the intention of upheave the skills illustrating in Army showcase and inculcate interest on drills. The initial preparations of the constructions was done with the collaboration of Sri Lanka Engineers, planning by Corp of Engineer Services and project will be carried out by MAGA (PVT) Ltd. Simultaneously, constructions of the Saluting Dais was ceremonially commenced on 08 October 2020.

The Centre Commandant, Deputy Centre Commandant, Regimental Staff Officers, Other Ranks, MAGA engineers and co-workers of MAGA (PVT) Ltd attended for these events.
