Major General DMDCD Gunawardena RWP USP ndc psc assumed office as the 17th Colonel of the Regiment of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) on 24.04.2019 during a colourful ceremony at the VIR Regimental Headquarters, Boyagane, Kurunegala.
On arrival, the new Colonel of the Regiment was received by the VIR Centre Commandant and was presented a Guard Turnout and a ceremonial parade by the Regimental troops after he paid tribute to VIR War Heroes Monument. Then he attended for the All Ranks Tea and afterwards amidst religious observances Major General Chandana Gunawardena placed his signature in a formal document, symbolizing the assumption of duties
After ceremonial formalities Col of the Regiment attended for the tree sapling to mark the occasion and eventually he addressed the troops at “The Salute” multifunctional Hall.
The Centre Commandant, Senior Officers together with officers and other ranks attended the event.
