A felicitation ceremony for Major General D M D C D Gunawardana RWP USP ndu psc was held at the Regiment Centre on the occasion of his promotion to the rank of Major General. The traditional event unfolded on 18 January 2019 at Regimental Centre, Boyagane with the participation of a large number of Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks.
Upon his arrival at the VIR Regimental Headquarters, a Guard Turnout greeted him and after the VIR Regimental Centre Commandant warmly received him.
Then, Major General D M D C D Gunawardana RWP USP ndu psc, laid the floral wreath at the foot of the fallen war heroes to the Ranaviru Monument.
Later on, he received a ceremonial parade. After a while, the he posed for a group photograph with the Regimental staff and Officers. Finally he accompanied for the tea party which was arranged by the RHQVIR. A special memento was presented to Major General D M D C D Gunawardana RWP USP ndu psc by Colonel of the Regimet remarking this event.
Major General D M D C D Gunawardana RWP USP ndu psc was born on 23 September 1964 and completed his school education from D S Senanayake College Colombo. He joined the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet on 31 October 1985 to the Officer Cadet Intake 22. After successful completion of the basic military training, he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant on 24 July 1986. He has held many command appointments in unit line such as Platoon Commander, Company Commander and Second in Command. He Commanded 5th Battalion, 5/7th Battalions and 11th Battalion of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.
General D M D C D Gunawardana RWP USP ndu psc presently holds the appointment of Commandant at OCDC - Buttala.
