The gallantry awarding ceremony to recognize the VIR War Heroes with Rana Wickrama Padakkama (RWP) and Rana Sura Padakkama (RSP) was held on Monday 21 November 2016 during a dignified ceremony, held at the Regimental Centre of the Vijayabahau Infantry Regiment, Boyagane, Kurunegala. Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana USP ndc, the Colonel of the Regiment VIR presided the investiture ceremony as the Chief Guest. Senior Officers of the regiment received the Chief Guest on arrival at the premises before he was conducted to the “The Salute” Hall. Recital of the Regimental Song and observance of a two-minute silence in memory of all fallen War Heroes got the day’s programme going.\r\nIn recognition of the unmatched services to the nation during the tree decade long war against terrorism, Rana Wikrama Padakkama gallantry medals were awarded to 57 Officers and 156 Other Ranks during the ceremony while Rana Sura Padakkama was awarded to 65 Officers and 842 Other Ranks of the regiment presently serving, retired from service and those who made the supreme sacrifice in the name of the motherland. Brig W S Ariyasinghe RSP, Centre Commandant and senior officers of the regiment also took part in awarding medals.\r\nChief Guest at the end of the medal awarding ceremony addressed the gathering and extended his appreciation and best wishes and appreciated unmatched service rendered by all medal recipients.\r\nThe patriotic song Ratnadeepa Janma Bhoomi was resounded by the Regimental Beat Group before the formal culmination of the ceremony was announced. The recital of the national anthem drew the ceremony to a close.\r\nSenior officers, gallantry medal recipients, family members of fallen War Heroes and other Army personnel were also present at the occasion.\r\n
