VIJAYABAHU HONOURED AS THE FIRST SRI LANKAN ARMY MALE SOLDIER TO BE EMPLOYED AS A STAFF OFFICER ASSISTANT AT A UN MISSION IN THE HISTORY

WO 1 N G Nuwarage RSP USP, newly appointed Regimental Sergeant Major of 9th Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment returned to the country after a successful UN mission in South Sudan as a Staff Officer Assistant. WO I Nuwarage was honoured as the first Sri Lankan Army male soldier to be employed as a Staff Officer Assistant at a UN mission in the History. He was selected to represent the country out of 26 Warrant Officers and Senior Non Commissioned Officers of other arms by a board appointed by the Army Headquarters. He has put up an exemplary service that has been commended by the Force Commander and due to the sheer commitments and the good conduct as a Staff Officer Assistant, the UNMISS with the recommendation of the Force Commander has extended the tenure by a period of 28 days from the scheduled date of terminating his tenure of one year. The Regiment is proud of Warrant Officer Nuwarage for his achievement as the first Sri Lankan Army male soldier to serve the UN as a Staff Officer Assistant and Colonel of the Regiment and all ranks congratulate and wish him a brighter future.
