25TH ANNIVERSARY FOR THE VIJAYABAHU INFANTRY REGIMENT
Giving prominence to religious ceremonies, Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) proudly marked its 25th anniversary with opening of a Buddha Statue at the Regimental Centre, offering floral wreaths for War Heroes, all rank lunch, military salutes, tree planting, troop address and other arrangements during March 23-25 at the VIR Regimental Centre. \r\n\r\nThe anniversary programmes, organized on the directions of Major General Jagath Dias, Colonel of the Regiment commenced with invoking blessings on Regimental Colours at the Temple of Tooth Relics (Sri Dalada Maligawa).\r\n\r\nThe climax of the military formalities took place with a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour, presented to the Major General Jagath Dias at the Regimental Centre.\r\n\r\nMeanwhile, Major General Jagath Dias laid the foundation stone for the Regimental Center bakery. \r\n\r\nIn the same afternoon, officers sat together with other ranks for a lunch as one more feature of the anniversary celebrations.\r\n\r\nIn the same evening (23), an all-night Pirith chanting, got underway in VIR Headquarters premises in order to invoke blessings on the anniversary.\r\n\r\nA Heel Daanaya for 26 monks on Tuesday (24) and a musical show on Wednesday (25) culminated the commemorative arrangements of the anniversary.\r\n...
