HEADQUARTER BATTALION OF THE VIJAYABAHU INFANTRY REGIMENT

The Valient war heros of the Sri Lankan Forces fought against the seperetist Tamil tigers to safe guard the territorial intergrity and souverginity of the motherland.Among them few of sacrificed their lives for the motherland and few of left disabled throught life time and few of was missing in action.At this time of period, all the administration of KIA, MIA and WIA had benn done by theirown unit level, By the passing of the time, while the war, against Terrorist throught Sri Lanka was going on with the rapid increase of the KIA, MIA and WIA. Sri Lanka Army established Reinforcement Battalions (Rft) in order to look after the welfare of the families of the soldiers Killed and Missing and to take care of the wounded soldiers during the battle. As a result, The Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment inaugurated its Reinforcement Battalion in 23 August 1992 at Sinhawilluwatta Camp in PUTTLAM. Since there were less number of Killed/Missing and wounded soldiers in the Regiment initially an Officer Commanding was commanded. The first Officer Commanding was Lieutenant K C J Kalatuarachchi (O/61239) who got severely wounded during the battle.

During his tenure, he was able to organized the first ever sports meet for disabled soldiers in the Sri Lanka Army at SinhawilluWatta camp in 1993 under the patronage of the Directorate of Rehabilitation of the Sri Lanka Army and the 8th Brigade which was established in PUTTLAM camp then.

Consequently, with the rapid expansion of the conflict according to the Army Routine Order 32/93 the Reinforcement Battalion was raised in 23 August 1993 at Sinhawilluwatta camp by then Colonel of the Regiment Brigadier H S APerera. The Role of the

   Maintain the records of Officers and Soldiers those who wounded in the battle.
   Maintain the records of Officers and Soldiers those who Killed and Missing during the battle.
   Monitoring and maintaining the records of X listed Officers and Soldiers.
   Preparing Court of Inquiry reports of the Officers and Soldiers Killed, Missing, Wounded and deserters.
   Maintaining close coordination with Directorate of Personal administration, Directorate of Provost and Directorate of Pay and records in order to take the clearance of the Officers and Soldiers who Killed, Missing, wounded and deserters.
   Taking disciplinary actions for absentees without leave and deserters.
   Arranging compensations for the families of the Officers and Soldiers those who Killed and Missing during the battle.
   Administration of the Officers and Soldiers attached to the Battalion.
   Holding of equipment’s belongs to Wounded Officers and Soldiers.

Moreover, The staff of the Battalion was Officers and Soldiers those who wounded during the battle and uptodate they have been doing a tremendous service to the Battalion inspiteof their disability. A disable sports team was stared to enhance the abilities of the differently able soldiers of the Battalion.

The Reinforcement Battalion including the sports team was shifted to the BOYAGANE Camp on 21 November 1994. From 1992 to 1999 the Battalion was Commanded by a Commanding Officers and in 5 January 1999 a Commanding Officers was appointed to Command the Battalion. On 8 September 1999 the Battalion was re named a The Regimental Headquarter battalion on the direction by the Army Headquarters. Followings are the some of the achievements of the heroic sports men of the Headquarter battalion of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.
