A WARM FAREWELL GIVEN TO OUTGOING COLONEL OF THE REGIMENT

Troops of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment during a moving ceremony, blended with military formalities and ceremonials on 21.04.2019 bade farewell to outgoing Deputy Chief of Staff of Sri Lanka Army and Colonel of the Regiment, Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana.

The proceedings began as the day's protagonist, Colonel of the Regiment entered the premises to be saluted at a Guard Turnout in his honour. Senior Council members warmly welcomed the outgoing Colonel of the Regiment in front of the VIR War Heroes' monument and then he paid floral tributes to the VIR War Heroes' monument and PWV monument.

Then the troops of VIR paid tribute to the Colonel of the Regiment by a colourful ceremonial parade. After the ceremonial parade, he joined All Ranks Tea for refreshments where he shared a few thoughts with the attendees. Then he addressed the troops at the venue arranged at playground.

Finally, a ‘Dinner Night’ was hosted in appreciation of the outgoing Colonel of the Regiment and also the outgoing Chairperson of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs Anuja Kariyakarawana. All Officers with their spouses joined it at “The Salute” multifunctional hall. Adding memories to the occasion, a momento was also gifted to him as a token of goodwill. Mrs Shiromi Gunawadena appreciated the services of the outgoing Chairperson and presented her with a symbolic memento.

On 22.04.2019, to be in accordance with formalities, the outgoing Colonel of the Regiment was moved out from the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment premises amid greetings of ‘Jaya Sri’ as all ranks lined up to bid him goodbye.
