Mrs Avanthi Pilapitiya, Chairperson of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment Seva Vanitha Branch and its members in collaboration with the Institute of Indigenous Medicine University of Colombo, conducted an Indigenous Medical Procedure Camp for the service personnel and civil employees of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment and their family members who are in need of medical assistance, at the “Salute” Multifunctional Hall, Vijayabahu Infantry Regimental Centre, Boyagane on 25 March 2021 (Thursday) under the patronage of Colonel of the Regiment of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Major General S P K A Pilapitiya RWP RSP USP, by adhering all the health precautions and guidelines stipulated to prevent COVID-19 outbreak.
This Indigenous Medical Campaign was carried out by a team consist with Dr. Nimal Karunarathne, Senior Lecturer, Consultant - Ayurveda Community Medicine, Dr. (Mrs.) K.R. Weerasekara, Senior Lecturer, Consultant - Ayurveda Community Medicine, Dr. (Mrs.) Kaumadi Karunagoda, Senior Lecturer, Consultant - Ayurveda Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Dr. Priyangani Gunarathne, Senior Lecturer Consultant in Panchakarma with the help of other consultants and supporting staff from the Institute of Indigenous Medicine University of Colombo. It has been coordinated by Dr. Namal Jayawardane, Senior Lecturer, Community Medicine Institute of Indigenous Medicine. A total of over 200 personnel received medical assistance during the campaign.
Leaving an indelible gesture in the premises as well as the day’s final showcase, the Medical Team was commended by a symbolic memento and service appreciation certificates by Mrs Avanthi Pilapitiya, Chairperson of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment Seva Vanitha Branch on their voluntarily commitment in this meritorious act and the Director at the Institute of Indigenous Medicine, Senior Professor Priyani Paranagama was appreciated for the support extended for the cause.
Dr. Namal Jayawardane spell out few words about the experience and exposure that they got for final year medical students, as well as VIR hospitality was commended and Mrs. Himali Pussella, Secretary of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment Seva Vanitha Branch delivered the vote of thanks.
