VIR Anniversary Marked; Religious Observances, Guards of Honour & Salute to Newly Promoted Officers Dominate

Sri Lanka Army\'s Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR), one of the most prestigious infantry regiments marked its 24th Anniversary on Saturday (22) with religious observances, military formalities, VIR ex-servicemen\'s programmes, military honours to newly promoted officers and other commemorative events at Boyagane, Kurunegala. \r\n\r\nMajor General Jagath Dias, Colonel of the Regiment, VIR received a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour on the anniversary day when he arrived at the VIR Regimental Headquarters, Boyagane. \r\n\r\nOn Saturday (22), giving pride of place to religious observances, a \'Pirith\' Chanting andHeeldana took place at Kurunegala Ethugal Viharaya, Kurunegala. giving were conducted blessing Fallen and Disable War Heroes, serving Officers and Other Ranks, Civil Staff of VIR and all the family members. An all rank lunch at the premises culminated the day\'s programme amidst a musical entertainment. \r\n\r\nAs part of the anniversary programmes, separate two Guard Turnouts and Guards of Honour, were accorded to Major General K.C. Gunawardena and Major General A. Kariyakarawana who newly received promotions as Major Generals. Both of them paid their reverence to fallen VIR War Heroes at the VIR war memorial in the premises during the military formalities. \r\n\r\nMajor General (retd) J. Nammuni, former Colonel of the Regiment, VIR, Senior Officers, retired Senior Officers and Other Ranks and a large gathering, were associated with anniversary arrangements.\r\n
