VIJAYABAHU INFANTRY REGIMENT PROUDLY CELEBRATED IT IS 27TH ANNIVERSARY

Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment proudly celebrated it is 27th anniversary on 22nd March 2017. Programme was arranged with flag blessing ceremony at Sri Dalada Maligawa Kandy, providing lunch for home for the elders, lunch for children home Kurunegala and celebrated many activities during the anniversary.According to the guidance and instructions given by Commander Security Forces Kilinochchi and the Col of the Regiment Maj Gen A. Kariyakarawane USP ndc Regimental day celebrations commenced invoking blessing for flags at the temple of Tooth Relics at Sri Dalada Maligawa , Kandy on 21st March 2017.

The Presidential colour flag and Regimental colour flag together with 24 battalions representating their flags in a parade consisting 40 officers and 150 other ranks commenced their march from the entrance of Dalada Maligawa. Later a religious ceremony was held at Sri Dalada Maligawa by offering Buddha Puja and blessing of the Noble Tooth Relic for Presidential colour flag, Regimental colour flag and battalion flags which represented by Regimental Center Commandant Brig Srinath Ariyasinghe RSP and Commanding Officers.Social services activities were held to commemorate the Regimental Anniversary on 16 and 17 March 2017 at Kurunegala Maliyadewa home for the elders and children home by providing lunch for more than 100 inmates.The climax of the formalities took place at Regimental Headquarter Boyagane, with a Guard turnout, offering flower wreath to war heroes Monument and Guard of honour presented consisting 27 officers and 272 other ranks and the Regimental colour squad to the Colonel of the Regiment on 22 March 2017. After the parade Col of the Regt planted a Sandun Plant and presented at for two Group photos with Officers and Senior NCOs. Col of the Regiment during his troop address appreciated and remembered with full respect for 3000 war heroes of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment for sacrificing their lives for safe guarding the territorial integrity of the country and for those who were injured during past three decades. He appealed to all ranks in ordered to build good image of the VIR to support and more emphasis should be given to sports activities to achieve best results while maintaining good administration and discipline at all levels.During his speech he informed that fullest support will be extended to achieve the best results in sports and would improve skills of VIR sportsmen, special appreciation and prices were given to Vijayabahu Boxing , Volleyball and Moto racing team for the achievements they have gained as Champions in 2017 Inter Regimental tournaments and a Special appreciation and Pack of cricket equipments presented by Col of the Regt to Sgt Sarath Kumara IAP for his excellent batting performances during the Blind Cricket T 20 world cup held in India. \r\n He express thanks to President of VIR Seva wanitha Branch and the members for providing assistance by generous contribution from well wishes to 300 war heroes families and 68 civil servants and their families at RHQ VIR.\r\nHaving attended Col of the Regiment and with many senior officers and other rankers all night Pirith Chanting in the evening to invoke blessing on the anniversary at RHQ VIR. Heel Danaya; has been bequeathed for 26 Monks and the relic on 23rd March 2017.On same day After religious activities Col of the Regt laid a foundation stone for three stories building with the great intention of improving accommodations facilities of soldiers and to make Regiment very comfortable place to them.As the conclusion of the 23rd March Regimental day programme schedule a well organized all rank dinner was arranged at The Salute Reception hall. Regimental brass band added more glamour to the anniversary celebration with the music.The musical Show has given an enjoyable conclusion to the Regimental day Programme on 25th March 2017.
