VIJAYABAHU INFANTRY REGIMENT CELEBRATES ITS 34th ANNIVERSARY

Showcasing glamour and pride on a grand scale, as one of the most prestigious fighting regiments of the Sri Lanka Army, the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment commemorated its 34th anniversary on 22 March 2024 in a colourful and vibrant ceremony held at the Regimental Centre, Boyagane in the presence of regimental council members, senior officers, officers and other ranks.

Having graced the occasion as the chief guest , Commander Security Force Central and Colonel of the Regiment of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Major General Rohitha Aluvihare was warmly received upon his arrival at the Regimental Centre and was accorded a Guard Turnout at the main entrance in accordance with military formalities and then he paid floral tributes to the fallen Vijayabahu War Heroes at the War Heroes` and PWV Recipients` Monuments and simultaneously, the Colonel of the Regiment accepted the regimental salute at the ceremonial Guard of Honour accorded inclusive of Regimental Colours at the regimental parade ground.

Marking this noteworthy day, Major General Rohitha Aluvihare posed for group photographs with officers and Other Ranks of the Regiment. Afterwards, the Colonel of the Regiment addressed all the troops at the Gymnasium paying a special tribute to former Colonels of the Regiment and former Archers for their dedicative service that brought the regiment to the place where it is at present. The day’s commemorative ceremony reached its conclusion with an All Rank lunch arranged at “The Salute” Multifunctional Hall.

On par with the 34th Regimental Day celebrations, offering of delicious lunch for inmates of Maliyadewa Boys’ Home was organized by the officers and Other Ranks of the Regimental Centre on 16 March 2024. Children at the Maliyadewa Boys’ Home enjoyed lunch and interacted with the troops while exchanging their good old memories.

Furthermore on 18, 19 March 2024 an over-night ‘Pirith’ chanting followed by offering of morning almsgiving was organized on par with the 34th Regimental Day which got underway at the Regimental Centre premises, soon after a colourful and traditional procession encompassing various cultural dances and events. The chief incumbent on behalf of the members of the Maha Sangha delivered an ‘Anusasana’ and bestowed blessings on the organization and both injured and fallen War Heroes, recalling the glorious history of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment. He also praised the Army's diversified role and wished good luck as the defenders of the nation.
