To coincide with the festival season, Christmas Carols evening organized by the Christian Fellowship of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment under the patronage of the Director General General Staff, Commander Army Training Command and Colonel of the Regiment VIR, Major General S U M N Manage WWV RWP RSP psc, was held on 29 December 2021 at “The Salute” Multifunction Hall at Vijayabahu Infantry Regimental Centre, Boyagane, Kurunegala while adhering all the health precautions and guidelines stipulated to prevent COVID-19 outbreak.
The event commenced with the gracious presence of the Colonel of the Regiment VIR, Major General Nishantha Manage and President VIR Seva Vanitha Branch, Mrs Kumudu Manage. Afterwards, Colonel Roshan Thirimanne made the welcome speech followed by reading of gospel by Colonel Jude Kariyakarawana. Christmas Message was delivered by Rev Father Prasanna Solangaarachchi of St. Anne’s Church Miriswatte.
VIR Ransara Band and Brass Band, Army Performing Arts Team, Members of VIR Christian Fellowship, VIR Seva Vanitha members and their children, invited choir teams of St. Anne’s Church Miriswatte and St. Anthony’s Church Kuliyapitiya sang odes and performed to Prince of the Peace, Jesus Christ before the audience.
During the appreciation, members of all choir teams were presented with gifts followed by a distribution of scholarships for the children of VIR members who got through G.C.E (A/L) and (O/L) with higher gradings, organized by VIR Seva Vanitha Branch.
Major General Laksiri Perera expressed his oral tribute in his thanking speech to every personnel who assisted to make VIR Christmas Carols a grand success.
Regiment Council members, Members of Members of VIR Christian Fellowship, together with their families, Other Ranks with their families were present on the occasion. As the final showdown, the night sky was glittered with a colourful display of fireworks.
