NEWLY PROMOTED MAJOR GENERAL SUMAL HEMARATHNE HONOURED IN A FELICITATION CEREMONY

Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, following its’ traditions and military formalities with the blessings of the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and Colonel of the Regiment of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Major General Rohitha Aluvihare RWP RSP ndu psc and supervision of the Centre Commandant, saluted the newly promoted Major General WSN Hemarathne RWP RSP psc on 22 July 2024 in a fitting ceremony, held at the VIR Regimental Centre, Boyagane.

Tributes were respectively offered by warmly receiving the day's Guest of Honour and subsequent Guard Turnout at the entrance in accordance with military formalities. Afterwards, in remembrance of all fallen Vijayabahu War Heroes, Major General Sumal Hemarathne laid the floral wreaths at the War Heroes Monument and PWV Monument paying tributes in a sincere ceremony. Simultaneously, a Guard of Honour was accorded to newly promoted Major General Sumal Hemarathne in keeping with military traditions.

Leaving an indelible gesture, newly promoted Major General Sumal Hemarathne was ushered to All Ranks Tea Party arranged at the mens’ club and a symbolic memento was presented by the Colonel of the Regiment to engrave this remarkable event. Then, Major General Sumal Hemarathne expressed his gratitude to the Colonel of the Regiment, Centre Commandant, and All Ranks of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment for arranging such a grateful felicitation for him in a short preparation.

Senior officers, Regimental Staff Officers and Other Ranks participated in this event.
