NEW OUTDOOR VOLLEYBALL COURT AT RHQ VIR DECLARED OPEN

The new Outdoor Volleyball Court constructed at Regimental Centre, Vijayabahu Ingantry Regiment at Boyagane, Kurunegala with Regimental Funds was declared open by the Colonel of the Regiment of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment Major General S P K A Pilapitiya RWP RSP USP on a colourful note on 07.11.2020.

The new facility completed in a short span of time in order to improve sporting abilities of the soldiers and moreover, the playing field which has been constructed in accordance with accepted standards with the illumination facility for the game both in day and night. To mark the opening of the new Volleyball court, an exhibition Volleyball game played between two teams of Regimental Volleyball Squad. Regimental Volleyball Team was formed in 1999. In Sri Lanka Army Inter Regiment showcase, VIR Volleyball Team emerged as Champions in “A” Division in 2011, 2016 and Champions in “B” Division in 2003. They have acuired Runners-Up slots in “A” Division in 2008, “B” Division in 2001, Super League in 2018 and another two Novices Runners-Up slots in 2014 and 2018. In present, 6 VIR players were enrolled to Army Volleyball Team.
