NEW DEPUTY CENTRE COMMANDANT ASSUMES DUTIES

Colonel K A D C R Kannangara RSP assumed office as the 7th Deputy Centre Commandant of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) on 11 December 2020 during a brief ceremony at the Vijayabahu Infantry Regimental Headquarters, Boyagane, Kurunegala.

Colonel Rukshan Kannangara was born on 10 July 1973 and completed his school education from St. John’s College, Nugegoda. He was enlisted to Sri Lanka Army Regular Force on 19 July 1993 and followed the basic military training as a Cadet Officer with Intake 40. After a successful training he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant on 17 June 1995 and posted to the 5th Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.

He has hold many appointments in 5 VIR such as Platoon Commander, Intelligence Officer, Company Commander, 2nd In Command and subsequently hold the appointment of Commanding Officer of 18th Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment. Before taking over duties as Deputy Centre Commandant he held numerous appointments as Staff Officer II at Directorate of Personnel Administration, Officer Commanding of 10th Contingent United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), Coordinating Officer at Directorate of Training, Staff Officer I (Admin and Quartering) of 21 Division, Anuradhapura and Deputy Dean East Campus of Kothalawala Defence University.
