NEW CENTRE COMMANDANT ASSUMES DUTIES

Brigadier P M R H S K Herath RWP RSP assumed office as the 13th Centre Commandant of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) on 08 July 2019 during a glamourous ceremony at the VIR Regimental Headquarters, Boyagane, Kurunegala.

On arrival, the new Centre Commandant was received by the Deputy Centre Commandant and was presented a Guard Turnout and a ceremonial parade by the Regimental troops after he paid tribute to VIR War Heroes Monument and PWV memorial. After ceremonial formalities Centre Commandant attended for the tree sapling to mark the occasion and afterwards amidst religious observances Brigadier P M R H S K Herath RWP RSP placed his signature in a formal document, symbolizing the assumption of duties and eventually he addressed the troops at “The Salute” multifunctional Hall.

Brigadier Sisira Herath was born on 04 February 1966 and completed his school education from Mayurapada Central College, Mawanella. He joined the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet on 22 February 1988 to the Officer Cadet Intake 29. After successful completion of the basic military training, he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant on 16 December 1989. He has held many command appointments in unit line such as Platoon Commander, Company Commander, Second in Command and commanded 9th Battalion of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment. Before taking over duties as Centre Commandant he held numerous senior appointments as SO II (A) - RHQ VIR, Col GS - HQ SLAVF, Chief of Staff - RHQ VIR, Deputy Commandant - RHQ VIR, Offg Bde Comd - 611 Bde, Bde Comd - 583 Bde and Deputy Commandant - ITC Minneriya.

The Deputy Centre Commandant, Senior Officers together with officers and other ranks attended for these events.
