Major General Jaliya Nammuni Cricket Pavilion, a much desired addition to the Archers Cricket Ground which is named after the Father of Viayabahu Infantry Regiment, was ceremonially declared open by the ‘Father of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment’ Major General Jaliya Nammuni during a vivid ceremony held at the regimental centre premises on 20 May 2023. Director General General Staff Sri Lanka Army, Commander 1 Corps and Colonel of the Regiment of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment Major General Nishantha Manage, council members, senior officers and regimental staff participated in this historic event.
Two storied pavilion which is constructed according to modern standards has the ability to accommodate approximately 400 personnel and is equipped with a fully-fledged gymnasium, separate dressing rooms and a VIP lounge with an astonishing view of the Archers Cricket Ground.
A camp visit was organized in order to acclimatize Major General Jaliya Nammuni on latest developments of the regimental centre. A cultural dancing display followed by a friendly cricket match between the champions and runners-up of inter battalion cricket tournament was held to add more glamour to this occasion. The programme concluded with a delightful lunch organized at “The Salute” multifunctional hall.
