COLONEL OF THE REGIMENT WAS FELICITATED BY RHQ VIR UPON HIS PROMOTION

Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, following its’ traditions and military formalities, saluted the newly-promoted Colonel of the Regiment of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment and General Officer Commanding of 55 Division, Major General S P K A Pilapitiya RWP RSP USP on 07 November 2020 in a fitting ceremony, held at the VIR Regimental Centre at Boyagane, Kurunegala, giving pride of place to military formalities by adhering all the health precautions and guidelines received to prevent COVID-19 outbreak.

During his first formal visit to the VIR Regimental Centre after his promotion to the rank of Major General, a Guard Turnout plus a Guard of Honour, saluted Major General Sisira Pilapitiya after he was warmly received by Brigadier Sisira Herath, the Centre Commandant of the Vijajayabahu Infantry Regiment, when he was accorded the Guard Turnout. This Senior Officer is the directly posted first ever VIR officer to become a Major General.

Paying his deep respect to the memory of fallen Vijayabahu War Heroes, Major General Sisira Pilapitiya was ushered to lay a floral wreaths at the VIR War Heroes Monument and PWV Heroes Monument. The solemn ceremony recalled past memories of fallen VIR War Heroes with dignity as the surroundings remained calm and quiet.

Adding patriotic sentiments to the occasion, the day’s Chief Guest, Major General Sisira Pilapitiya at the request of the Parade Commander, afterwards, reviewed the Guard of Honour seconds before he formally received the General Salute in conformity with military traditions.

The Colonel of the Regiment speak to all newly promoted Lieutenant Colonels, Colonels and Brigadiers of the Regiment and gave his thoughts of up lifting and maintaining VIR dignity in all areas.

Leaving an indelible gesture in the premises, Major General Sisira Pilapitiya was later on invited to pose for a group photograph with the Regimental Staff followed by an All Ranks Tea Party arranged the “Salute” Multifunctional Hall and presented a symbolic memento to the Colonel of the Regiment to engrave this remarkable event.

Senior Officers, Regimental Staff officers and Other Ranks witnessed these chain of indelible events.
