BRIGADIER LAXMAN SAMARADIWAKARA ASSUMED OFFICE AS THE DEPUTY COMMANDANT OF THE SRI LANKA MILITARY ACADEMY

Brigadier K D M L Samaradiwakara RWP RSP psc assumed office as the Deputy Commandant of the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) on 17 July 2021 during a brief ceremony at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa. The Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) is the premier training institute of the Sri Lanka Army which trains officer cadets from enlistment to commissioning. Brigadier Laxman Samaradiwakara is the second VIR officer to hold this prestigious appointment following the footsteps of Major General Sisira Pilapitiya, present Colonel of the Regiment of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.

Brigadier Laxman Samaradiwakara was enlisted to Sri Lanka Army Regular Force on 29 April 1991 and followed the basic military training as a Cadet Officer of Pakistan Military Academy Intake 3. He was commissioned on 14 April 1992 and initially joined to Special Forces. After serving 12 years in Special Forces subsequently he was posted to his original regiment, 1st Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment. He has held the appointment of 2nd In Command of 11th Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment and Commanded the 23rd Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment. During his 30 years of military tenure, he has hold the following appointments in various formations and locations, such as; Staff Officer of United Nations Peace Keeping Mission in Haiti, Staff Officer 1 (Volunteer) at Military Secretary Branch, Commanding Officer of Army Training School, Maduruoya, General Staff Officer 1 (Operations) of Directorate of Staff Duties and Colonel General Staff of Security Forces Headquarters Central, Colonel Military Secretary (Volunteer), Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force Headquarters and Commander, 541 Infantry Brigade, Mannar.
