ARCHERS BID FAREWELL TO OUTGOING MAJOR GENERAL LAKSIRI PERERA

On 15 July 2022, revitalizing an age-old military tradition, Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment Centre hosted a farewell ceremony in honour of the retiring, Coommandant of the Army War College, Major General U U K L S Perera RWP RSP USP psc at the Regimental Centre, Boyagane, Kurunegala, in which his 34 years of distinguished service was hailed and awarded accolades.

Upon Major General Laksiri Perera’s arrival at the VIR Regimental Centre, the Deputy Centre Commandant of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment warmly received the day's protagonist and a subsequent Guard Turnout at the entrance greeted him in accordance with military formalities. The next moment on the itinerary was solemn and dignified since memories would never die, as they say, giving pride of place to the memory of all fallen Vijayabahu War Heroes’, Major General Laksiri Perera, laid the floral wreaths at the War Heroes Monument and PWV Monument paid his tribute in a solemn ceremony.

The stage was set for the day’s highlight, next as the Parade Commander in his colourful attire reported the parade to Major General Laksiri Perera in accordance with military traditions. At the request of the Parade Commander, Major General Laksiri Perera reviewed the Guard of Honour, seconds before formally received the General Salute. Leaving an indelible gesture in the premises, Major General Laksiri Perera was later on invited to pose for a group photograph with officers followed by a Dinner arranged at the Officers’ Mess.

Maj Gen Laksiri Perera is a proud product of Ananda College – Colombo. He was a bright student in the college who reflected his talents and skills in various streams. After his very successful school period, he opted this great organization showing his patriotism and genuine expectation of serving our mother land.

Major General Laksiri Perera joined the Sri Lanka Army Regular Force on 06 October 1988 as an officer cadet to the KDA Intake 6. After successful completion of the basic training from Kothelawala Defence Academy and Sri Lanka Military Academy, he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and posted to Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment on 05 October 1990. During his loyal and illustrated career spanned, he has held many command and staff appointments in battalion level and in various military establishments. As a young officer he has served in 6th Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment and then 2nd in Command in 1st Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment and later he commanded the 14th Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment & 18th Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment. He has engaged in operational, staff and administration commitments in various capacities. Significantly reaching a remarkable milestone in his military career, he was first Commanding Officer of the 18th Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.

Moreover, he has served in various Command, Staff and Instructional capacities at Field Formations during his military career such as Platoon Commander/Officer Commanding at 6th Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Officer Instructor at Sri Lanka Military Academy, Brigade Major in 533 Infantry Brigade, General Staff Officer Grade 2 (Overseas Training) at Directorate of Training - Army Headquarters, Directing Staff at Defence Services Command and Staff College, Colonel General Staff at Security forces Headquarters - Mullaitivu, Colonel General Staff at Directorate of Operations, Commanding Officer at Sri Lanka Military Academy, Brigade Commander 533 Infantry Brigade, Assistant Military Secretary at Military Secretary Branch - Army Headquarters, Chief Instructor at Defence Services Command and Staff College, General Officer Commanding 56 Infantry Division and Commandant Army War College, Buttala.

All Officers and Other Ranks of the Regiment Centre extended their heartfelt gratitude to distinguished outgoing great Archers Member for his commitment and dedication to the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment and wished him a healthy, wealthy, peaceful and prosperous retired life.
