S/504301Sgt Karunarathna WM WV

S/504301 Sargent Karunarathna WM was on his way for a routine duty when the terrorists blew the Central Bank Building on January 1996. The Building was on fire and many people were trapped inside. This Senior Non Commissioned Officer risking his life, volunteered himself to save a large number of people who had been trapped in higher floors.

For this selfless heroic act S/504301 Sargent Karunarathna WM of the 5th Battalion Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment was awarded with the Weerodhara Vibhushanaya Medal.
