Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment

Nothing is beyond endurance for the one who excels

THE 24th VIJAYABAHU INFANTRY REGIMENT

The Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment is the youngest Infantry Regiment in the Sri Lanka Army. But the VIR did a tremendous job during the Humanitarian Operation with other senior Regiments. During the war scenario, most of the regular and volunteer Battalion in VIR gave the maximum contribution to make a peaceful country. However, after the Humanitarian Operation, the Army wanted to raise new Battalions for maintaining the peaceful environment in the country.

In response to the need of the Army, on 04th March 2010, the 24th Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment was raised at the Engineer Service building in Panagoda Army Cantonment. The 1st Commanding Officer was Maj TMF Kichilan RWP RSP. The battalion was consisting of 16 Officers and 375 Soldiers.
