At that time the Wanni Humanitarian Operation was at a critical juncture and the entire Army was unable to set up the unit on that day due to overcrowding and the Vavuniya Army rallied for the noble task of establishing this unit first 2 3 10 12 and 16 Officers and other ranks from the Vijayabahu Infantry regiment volunteer unit were deployed to the Security force headquarters Kilinochchi 5th Task Force and (Koddaikaddiyarkulam) area on 2009.03.21 to make the first deployment of the unit with all those troops on the requirements of the Army on that day. Arrived on 16.03.2009 at 0639 hrs on 23.03.2009 with a contingent of 16 x 500 troops with Other ranks enlisted from the 15th and 17th VIR Bn Movements and the Civil Defense Force who had arrived on those occasions for the upliftment of the unit on 21.03.2009 Units Commanding Officer (Lieutenant Colonel LWADS Wickramasinghe hoisted the National Flag at the Koddaikaddiyarkulam School on the auspicious occasion and marked the commencement of the unit's duties.
