INAUGURATION OF NEW INFRASTRUCTURE AT HQ SLAVF

On 18 February 2026, Lieutenant General B K G M L Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, Commander of the Army, officially opened a newly constructed Fitness Trail and Officers’ Accommodation Building at HQ SLAVF at the invitation of Major General K V N P Premaratne RSP USP nps psc, Commandant SLAVF.

Upon arrival at the HQ SLAVF, the Commander of the Army was warmly received by the Commandant-SLAVF and was accorded a formal Drive-Past salutation by the troops of SLAVF. Following the reception, the Commander inaugurated the newly built fitness trail around “Thambaseru Wila” by unveiling the commemorative plaque. This facility is designed to enhance the physical training infrastructure for all personnel at the headquarters.

After a while, the Commander adding a symbolic significance to the day’s next event, inauguration of newly constructed officers’ accommodation building. This endeavour which consists of ten ensuites was successfully accomplished by highly committed technical and labour workforce of 6(V) Engineer Service Regiment within a few months. Following the inauguration, the Commandant SLAVF conducted an interaction session with the troops of the 6(V) Engineer Service Regiment, formally commending their technical expertise and dedication in completing the project.

The Commander then conducted a field inspection of Officers’ and Other Ranks’ quarters to assess current living standards and welfare facilities.

Later on, to commemorate the visit, the Commander posed for a group photograph and participated in a symbolic sapling planting within the camp premises.

Subsequently, the Commander attended an All-Ranks tea reception, where he engaged with personnel to discuss routine works and welfare matters. To mark the occasion and symbolize professional goodwill, the Commander of the Army and the Commandant SLAVF exchanged official plaques.

Prior to his departure, the Commander recorded his commendatory remarks in the Visitors’ Book, marking the conclusion of the official visit.
