SRI LANKA ARMY VOLUNTEER FORCE HONOURS COLONEL SG KAHAWEWITHANA

Colonel SG Kahawewithana who is an illustrious senior officer and possesses above 33 years of military service, was paid an honorable tribute at the Headquarters of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF)on 03 April 2024 upon his retirement with effect from 05 April 2024. The senior officer was serving as a Colonel Coordinating Officer at 61 Infantry Division, Boossa prior to retirement.

In honour of his dedicated service to the entire establishment, the senior officer was awarded with a special memento and a certificate of appreciation by Major General Thusitha Silva KSP - the Deputy Commandant of SLAVF under the directions of Major General MK Jayawardena RSP VSV USP ndu - the Commandant, SLAVF.

Colonel SG Kahawewithana enlisted in the Volunteer Force on 23 January 1991 with the Volunteer Intake 14. He is an alumnus of the prestigious training establishment - Sri Lanka Military Academy – Diyatalawa. He was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and posted to the Gemunu Watch (GW) on 15 June 1991. After being steadily elevated to the subsequent ranks over three decades in the Sri Lanka Army, he was promoted to the rank of Colonel on 28 May 2019.

Colonel SG Kahawewithana is an exemplary personality who obliged to his assignments of liabilities beyond the expectations of the establishment serving both in operational and non-operational areas performing his duties, ensuring the highest eminence of the Sri Lanka Army. Some of the key appointments he held during his illustrious career are; Platoon Commander , Intelligence Officer&Officer Commanding- 3rd (Volunteer) the Gemunu Watch Regiment, Adjutant- 14th (Volunteer) the Gemunu Watch Regiment, Company Commander - 10th&14th (Volunteer) the Gemunu Watch Regiment , Second-in-Command- 10th (Volunteer) the Gemunu Watch Regiment, Commanding Officer- 16th (Volunteer) the Gemunu Watch Regiment,Staff Officer 1 (Logistics) - 55 Infantry Division, Liaison Officer - Regimental Headquarters Sri Lanka Women’s Corps, Commanding Officer- Headquarters Civil Security Department (Wennawaththa), Staff Officer 1(Logistics) - Headquarters, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Senior Counsellor- Army Hospital (Colombo), Colonel Coordinating Officer - 61 Infantry Division – Boossa.

As a counsellor the senior officer extended a precise role and task for the mental and physical wellbeing of the serving members who have submerged in personal issues or crisis in the establishment.

Colonel SG Kahawewithana is a professionally sound military stance who has a vast exposure to military and non-military courses. The senior officer has been awarded with service recognitions for his dedicated service rendered to the nation.
